Rami Malek pictured as Mercury for new film
The first look at Mr Robot star Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury in new biopic Bohemian Rapsody has been released.
With a moustache and tight jeans, Malek seems almost unrecognisable as the Queen frontman, in a photo published by Entertainment Weekly.
The release signals production of the film has started, with X-Men director Bryan Singer at the helm and Ben Hardy, Joe Mazzello and Gwilym Lee as Queen’s other members.
“When you’re able to open your eyes and see a different person staring back at you in the mirror, it’s a very affirming moment,” Malek told Entertainment Weekly.
The 36-year-old became famous for his role as a highly skilled hacker in USA Network’s hit TV show Mr Robot.
“We’re going to use Freddie as much as possible and use myself as much as possible,” Malek said.
“I’m in Abbey Road right now, if that should say anything to you. I’m not working on my acting.”
The biopic, titled Bohemian Rapsody, will chronicle the story of the band from 1970 until the band’s performance at Live Aid in 1985 – six years before the singer died with Aids.
The film is due in cinemas in Christmas 2018.
